The inspiration behind Degens

Degens comes directly from my experience as a founder in the crypto industry. From the past 10 years as a tech startup founder.

The short film follows a group of die-hard cryptocurrency enthusiasts, known as "degenerates" or "degens" in crypto slang, as they embark on a wild rollercoaster ride of high-stakes investments, hilarious blunders, and speculative dreams. Each character brings their unique, quirky perspective to the world of crypto, from the obsessive day trader to the newcomer who’s just trying to keep up with the latest trends.

But the comedy isn't just about the tech jargon or the colorful personalities in the space. It also plays on the larger societal obsession with fast wealth, speculative bubbles, and the desire for financial freedom that drives so many into the crypto world. In an era where "get rich quick" schemes can go viral on social media, Degens presents a satirical yet affectionate look at a phenomenon that has become an integral part of pop culture.

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival is known for showcasing some of the most innovative and unique films, and this year, it’s welcoming a bold new entry into the world of comedy. The short film Degens is set to premiere at SXSW, making waves as the first-ever comedy about cryptocurrency.
